Caladdi B&B is in its fourth year of existence, and since opening our doors in 2014, we’ve come a long way. We’ve built our B&B into a 9-room establishment; we’ve held our first weddings and team builds here; we’ve hosted concerts and pop-up markets. We are passionate about bringing people together and giving them a home-from-home experience. Take a virtual tour of Caladdi B&B below.
We revamped jungle gym / kids play area on our front lawns, with the help of the amazing team at Jungle Kids. While they primarily operate out of Durban, they didn’t hesitate to drive up to the Midlands to assess what needed to be done, and then to return at a later stage to get the job done. We plan to add to this play area in time. So, know that when you stay at, or visit Caladdi, the younger kids are sorted!
In March we held our Sunday Lunch Table, where we served healthy, hearty, home-style food. Diners would select what they wanted from our Harvest Table, and paid by weight. After lunch, they enjoyed an artisanal coffee brewed on site by Wayne.
In January 2017 we introduced our new “Caladdi Supper Club” which will be on the last Friday of each month, every month, between 6pm and 10pm. The 27th was a great night’s entertainment thanks to the very talented, Jerry from Serendipity, situated at the Tweedie Junction. Before long, he had everyone singing along to tunes and enjoying the festive vibe. For supper, Nova made her very tasty Chicken Curry & Rice, as well as Hearty Cottage Pie served with a healthy green salad. All in all, a great evening was had. The next Supper Club is on the last weekend in Feb – tickets are R100 per person and include dinner. Book your seat directly with Nova via email.
Caladdi has become a popular functions venue hosting various monthly meetings, Corporate strat sessions and private parties. In December we hosted the local Lions River Club AGM and Christmas function which was a huge success.
Caladdi was proud to host American Delta Blues performer, Doc MacLean on his Zulu Skies Tour. Being chosen as one of only two performances in KZN, it was an honor to have this talented and interesting man stay with us. Not only is he an amazing artist, but a captivating story teller as well. He played to a packed audience and Nova, in keeping with the theme, served up Po Boys which is a famous street eat in New Orleans.
Caladdi B&B is delighted and honoured to have hosted British chef and TV food presenter, Matt Tebbutt and his film crew this month. Nova was delighted to talk about her love for food with Matt, and served up her famous Caladdi breakfast, while Wayne did his magic with coffee!
A successful photographic retreat was held at Caladdi, under the tuition of Harry Lock.
Some say “photography is a lot like fishing”… and so it was that our retreat could be renamed ‘Camera angling’ … choosing the right time of day, correct camera settings, interesting locations, patience & practice. Harry Lock inspired us all. From the history of photography, through basic technical skills to enhancing natural light in a variety of ways. We packed it all in.. and made space for delicious cream teas and master-chef meals from Nova’s kitchen.
On 1 July, 2016 we became a proud member of the Midlands Meander Association. We are so excited about this and even though the light was fading fast, we had to get a photo of the flag standing proudly on our verge. It has taken 2 years but we finally have our presence on the Meander.
We stock a wide range of these gorgeous hand made soaps. They’re made locally in the KZN Midlands and we also use the mini bars in all of our bathrooms. If you’d like to purchase a bar or two, please enquire at the Caladdi reception.
It was a very early start for us on the morning of the Comrades Marathon At 2:30am on 29 May breakfast was ready for our Comrades guests.

We hosted our second wedding in March. Congrats to Brett and Charlene on their marriage on Saturday, 19th. We were delighted to host them here – and wish them a lifetime of happiness together.
Due to popular demand, we’ve introduced Chelsea Friday’s where we serve Nova’s new homemade Chelsea Buns (which were a smash hit when she launched them at Wacky Wednesday earlier this month, and another firm favorite: choc eclairs. These are accompanied of course by Barista Wayne’s fabulous coffee. Thank you Midlands residents all for your amazing support.
Thank you to all our visitors who’ve booked your KZN Midlands stay through Booking.com – for rating us so highly. We’ve just received this digital award from them. #Proud
A New Year brings new life to Caladdi. Below, Caleb with his chickens and Addi with the little bird we have been nursing and feeding after it fell out of its nest. We think it’s a Weaver.
We’re so proud to see our latest rating on Booking.com – Caladdi is the top recommended accommodation establishment in the Lidgetton and surrounding areas. They have listed us in order of their recommendations. Thanks to all our visitors who’ve taken the time to rate us, we really appreciate it.
We hosted our first Real Craft Market on 21 Nov. The weather held out beautifully and it was such a wonderful day. The first of many, we hope.

October 2015: We hosted Portfolio’s Heather Coull and family for two nights at Caladdi and are delighted that they loved their stay. She wrote: “So often places are described as a home-from-home, but Caladdi really is. Nova and Wayne go out of their way to make guests feel welcome in the relaxed and unpretentious surroundings.” Read the full review here.
In September 2015 we were honoured to host Josie Field at Caladdi. Josie did an intimate performance on the lawns near our paddock. Music lovers enjoyed an afternoon of great music, craft beer and homemade food. We hope to grow this event for 2016 – watch this space!
Every Wednesday from 12.30pm, we hold our Wicked Wednesday – an afternoon/evening of fun for the kids. Local moms and dads visit Caladdi with their children for a play date with other kids, a bite to eat (our chocolate cake is delish) and a cup of coffee (prepared by Wayne – a qualified Barista). We serve a homely supper in the evening. Come and join us for Wicked Wednesday!
April 2015: Caladdi B&B is now a Midlands Meander wedding venue! Our first wedding took place in April, 2015. Rowan and Sarah got engaged here, and were married in a beautiful ceremony less than four months later. Congratulations to Rowan and Sarah, the new Mr & Mrs Mallon!
Congratulations to Rowan and Sarah on your engagement. In late December, 2014, Rowan popped the question at the top of our hill on a picnic blanket with awesome Aero press coffee and fresh scones! How could a girl refuse? Caladdi’s honored to have been chosen for this special occasion. We now have a name for that little koppie, it will be our Memory Hill named after the happy couple.
October 2014: We adopted this little lamb in October 2014 after she was found abandoned by her mother on a very hot day. Nova brought her home and spent the next 4 nights getting her to drink through a syringe.
Her name is Squeaks and as you can see, she thinks she is a dog.
